The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun. (1993)

Programme Note: John Buckley

This piece was commissioned by the 1994 GPA Dublin International Piano Competition with funds provided by the Arts Council. The first performance was given by Paulo Cremonte in the National Concert Hall in May 1994. The piece draws its inspiration from the following lines of the great Yeats poem The Song of Wandering Aengus.

And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.
